Summary of services provided by the Samurdhi Division

Release of funds for Samurdhi social security beneficiaries

  • In the case of a death, death certificate and relevant documents must be submitted within 30 days.
  • In the case of a marriage, marriage certificate and relevant documents must be submitted within 30 days.
  • In the case of a birth, birth certificate and relevant documents must be submitted within 30 days.
  • In the case of hospitalization, a medical certificate and relevant documents must be submitted within 7 days.

Release of compulsory savings funds

  • If the reason for requesting funds is illness, medical reports must be provided.
  • If the request is for higher education purposes, supporting letters and certificates must be submitted.
  • If the request is due to old age, a certified copy of the National Identity Card confirming that the person is over 70 years of age must be submitted.
  • A request letter must also be submitted along with the above documents.
  • Compulsory savings may also be released for the self-employment needs of Samurdhi beneficiaries.

Under the Livelihood Development Programme

  • For projects of Samurdhi beneficiaries that can be empowered under the livelihood development programme, equipment will be provided after receiving proposals and subjecting them to evaluation and approval.

  • Identifying persons imprisoned due to inability to pay fines, educating their families for reintegration into society, and referring information to the Community Correction Officer of the relevant court
  • Providing financial assistance to low-income and disaster-affected communities
  • Providing dry ration packs to low-income communities
  • Providing cooked meals to low-income communities
  • Providing housing assistance for low-income communities
  • Funeral assistance for low-income and disaster-affected families

Child Protection and Community Development

  • Raising awareness and empowering community-level civil organizations to minimize child abuse
  • Investigating complaints related to child abuse, intervention, and follow-up actions
  • Establishing School Child Protection Committees
  • Collecting regional child-related information and data and submitting it to the district data system

Foreign Employment Welfare Services

  • Providing Family Background Reports for foreign employment promotion and welfare activities
  • Granting “Rataviruwo” Housing Loans
  • Granting “Rataviruwo” Self-Employment Loans
  • Providing scholarships for children of migrant worker families

Other Welfare Services

  • Payment of Medical Assistance
  • Issuing Senior Citizen Identity Cards

  • Providing state lands on a long-term lease basis to individuals or institutions with higher income potential for agricultural development.

Land Use Planning and Development

  • Establishing and implementing model rural land use plans at village level.
  • Promoting re-cultivation methods on underutilized lands to obtain maximum productivity from land resources.
  • Protecting land stability through the adoption of conservation methods.
  • Improving the income levels of beneficiaries.
  • Increasing the contribution to national production through systematic agricultural expansion.

Awareness and Educational Programs

  • Conducting awareness programs for school students and the community on land use planning.
  • Educating school students and the community on land use planning and land management.
  • Raising awareness on environmental hazards caused by increased land utilization due to population growth and expanding economic and development needs, while emphasizing the importance of sustainable land use for future generations and minimizing environmental impacts as much as possible.
